About

Landing page for the sodium calcium exchanger NCX.

NCX helps maintain resting membrane potential through helping establish the sodium and calcium concentration gradients across the membrane, through the passive extrusion of one calcium ion for the entry of three sodium ions.

Part of the solute carrier family 8 (SLC8), which itself belongs to the CaCA (Ca2+/Cation Antiporter) superfamily.
