Chaos in Weakly-coupled Pacemaker Cells

Chaos in Weakly-coupled Pacemaker Cells

Model Status

This CellML version of the model has been checked in COR and PCEnv. The units are consistent and the model runs to recreate the published results.

Model Structure

In the paper described here, Lars Petter Endresen presents a very simple mathematical model of the rabbit sinoatrial action potential. One cell is defined by two nonlinear first-order ordinary differential equations, using just ten constant parameters. These two equations represent the slow inward calcium current, and the outward potassium current. Despite its inherent simplicity, the model can reproduce the complex waveforms and rhythms observed in experimentally recorded action potentials.
